Production of Catch Results from Boat Bagan Based on Lunar Period in the Waters of Yop Island, Teluk Wondama Regency

Abstract

The technology to utilize small pelagic fish resources in the waters of Yop Island, Teluk Wondama Regency is a boat lift net. This study aims to determine the difference of catches based on the lunar phase, to determine the types of fish caught in the dark and light months phase, to describe the operating method of fishing gear and its construction, and to determine oceanographic factors. Data collection was carried out in January-March 2022 on 3 boat lifts located around Yop Island’s waters. From boat lifts 1-3, the dominant types of fish caught were scad (Decapterus sp.), mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.), skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), anchovy (Stolephorus spp.), and yellow trevally fish (Selaroides sp.). The highest catch production was found in the dark month (January) which was 11,200kg and the total production during the dark month (January-March) was 31,000kg. The lowest production of the light moon was also found in January as much as 3,400kg and the total production during the light month of January-March was 10,480kg. The most dominant type of fish caught in the dark months is skipjack tuna, while in the light months the most dominant type of fish caught is scad fish. The operation of a boat lift net, as in general, consists of the stages of setting the net, submerging, hauling, and sorting the fish. The main construction on the boat lift is the boat as the main support, making it easier for the lift to move and tend to be more stable. Oceanographic conditions around the waters are in accordance with the water quality standards for marine biota.
