The Potential of Waisai Port as an Ecological Showcase of the Raja Ampat Islands

Abstract

Waisai Port is the main gateway for tourists to enter several destination spots in the Raja Ampat Islands and has become an alternative tourist destination for the people of Waisai City. Public opinion regarding the natural conditions and ecosystems in the port area is interesting to be studied as a representative of the ecology of the Raja Ampat Islands. The research method uses qualitative descriptions with data collection techniques distributing questionnaires using Google Forms. The results of the questionnaire distribution obtained 33 respondents with an assessment that as many as 60.6 percent came to the port to enjoy the sea view, with details of activities namely seeing the sea as far as the eye can see 63.6%, feeling the sea breeze 36.4%. As many as 42.4% answered that the natural conditions at Waisai Port are still good and 24.2% considered the conditions to be very good, As many as 54.5% of respondents answered satisfied, and very satisfied to enjoy Raja Ampat even though only at Waisai Port. The study concluded that it is necessary to formulate a concept for developing a Port Tourism design port, integrating the function of the port as a crossing transportation facility and natural tourism for the tourist public and the local community.
